Health and Safety at DESS
The health and safety of the children, parents, teachers and all who use our campus is a priority at DESS.
DESS employs a full-time qualified Health and Safety Manager who is responsible for protocols, administration, training and the day to day safety of the school. We employ a private security firm and work closely with the guards to ensure our requirements are met.
During the course of the academic year, the school conducts a fire drill each term, a lockdown and an evacuation drill once during this time. These allow us, as a school, to ensure that systems are in place and working. These are reviewed annually and updated as necessary. Induction training ensures that all staff, including security and support staff, are aware of their roles in health and safety. Assemblies and classroom visits are also conducted to discuss health and safety with the children.
Risk Assessments are drawn up for every school trip, whether overseas or local. The Health and Safety Manager visits the sites of the intended trips and overseas risk assessments are reviewed by the Board of Governors.
Our school nurses look after the wellbeing of the children during the school day, and an AED and first aid boxes are available for after hour usage. A large percentage of our sponsored staff are first aid qualified to assist where needed.
Through constant review and assessment by outside agencies, we ensure that our high standards of health and safety are maintained, keeping DESS the happy, safe environment it is proud of.
