At DESS, we are committed to ensuring our pupils are equipped with the technological skills required throughout their education and beyond. The teaching of Computing and access to digital technology is not just apparent in the discrete weekly lesson, but across the curriculum.
Our school possesses two state of the art ICT suites equipped with modern IBM desktop computers. Classes also have access to individual laptops; programmable toys, including Bee-Bots, Constructa-Bots and Roamers; microscopes with digital cameras; visualisers; programmable K’NEX models, FlowGo Controller interfaces; and Wi-Fi is available throughout the school.
iPads are also part of our everyday toolkit: all teachers are provided with iPads and every classroom has Apple TV installed, which connects to the interactive whiteboard. In Key Stage 1, there are class sets of iPads available and in Key Stage 2, we operate a 1:1 iPad program. Through using the device itself, along with a wide range of school recommended apps, our pupils are able to engage with their learning like never before: from creating Stop Motion animations to virtual school trips and exploring inside the human body – the possibilities are endless, and the positive impact of using the technology in our children’s learning is evident.
